RTFM – Read The ******* Manual!
The regular visitor to my site (aside from myself, there is at least one other
) would notice that I’ve been messing about with the layout and theme of the site. The new theme is called Thematic from a place called Themeshaper (link right at the bottom of this page) and I like the clean and sparse nature of the site now (leave a comment if you like/dislike).

Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender
There I was, just casually chatting to a friend on Microsoft Messenger, and she asked me to send her something via email, so I fire up Mail, type a quick message, drop an image in and click send. One minute later and I get an automated response entitle Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender.

The broadband debacle – fair use and download limits
The UK’s broadband market is too cheap – there is very little profit, and companies that provide these services have for some time used dubious marketing blurb to attract customers. Finally it seems that someone has actually noticed, and has started asking people what they expect to get from their ISP, and whether they know what they actually get.

Are the game companies trying to kill off secondhand sales?
I used to enjoy playing computer games, but am being restricted more and more, by so called Digital Rights Management. DRM is software that is supposedly designed to stop illegal copying (piracy) but in actual fact doesn’t do anything of the kind. All it does is restrict the genuine buyer, and cause problems for people who have legitimately purchased the games.

Sony Reader – not quite there yet
I found myself in Waterstones over the weekend, and had the opportunity to give the Sony Reader a good look over, and am grateful that I did!
I’d started asking for Waterstone’s vouchers for Christmas and Birthday, in the hope that I could get around half of the £200 cost, and could then put the rest towards it, and buy myself the Sony Reader. I like to read, and would like to read a lot of the texts available at the Gutenberg Project, but I was so disappointed with the Sony Reader.

Changes to iGoogle
My homepage has been set to iGoogle for some time, probably ever since I found that I could drag the little windows about and set out my homepage the way I want it to. I have the Gmail, News, Finance portfolio and Currency convertor gadgets and they tell me everything I need, with just one click of the home button
It’s odd, but I usually loathe these types of services, simply because it all demands access to your data (try any Facebook application for example) but maybe it’s the motto Google likes to use that assuages me?

How to beat the credit crunch…Somerfield style!
The credit crunch is biting. Inflation is at it’s highest in years. Banks are collapsing like dominoes. Energy costs are at their highest.
Food is far more expensive than twelve months ago, in some cases prices have gone up over 50%. So how does Somerfield propose to beat the crunch?

Support the Ghurkas!
Today I received an email from Joanna Lumley (yes THAT Joanna Lumley) thanking me for my support in the campaign to get justice for the Ghurkas. Recently a group of Ghurkas successfully challenged the British Governments immigration rules, which said that Ghurkas who were discharged from the regiment prior to 1997 had no right to settle in the UK, due to not having very strong ties to this country.
Thankfully the High Court threw that out, and the government is now reviewing all cases, which they should have done in the first place. The Ghurkhas have been fighting for the British Army for a very long time, and if that doesn’t qualify you as a British citizen then what does?
There is now a petition, which I signed, hence the email from Joanna, asking for the government to allow all retired Ghurkhas to settle here, and I fully agree with it.
Please sign it too – http://www.gurkhajustice.org.uk/
