Can’t see comments or comment box, WordPress blog
I was helping a friend set up a new website, part of which used WordPress as an easy way to keep a news section updated.
I’d set it up and managed to leave posts and comments, but then for some reason, something I changed made the comments, and comment box disappear.
I spent ages hunting through the comments.php file, looking over my CSS, and finally stumbled upon the problem.
I’d changed the Permalinks custom structure setting to /%category%/ and forgotten to add /%postname%/ which caused all of the comments, and the comment box to vanish!
So if you have a problem with comments and the comment form not showing up on your WordPress blog, check your permalinks in Settings!

nice post aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
comments don’t work?
Yes they work, but I have the blog set so that I have to approve comments. Cuts down on spam and abuse.
No – not working 4 me.
Are you saying custom structure should include code exactly like this:
/%category%/ %postname%/
I’ve tried many varfiations – discussion settings and pages and post all enabled etc – all not working!!!
Well I actually now have it set to
/%postname%/
but
/%category%/%postname%/
works too
If, however, I just use category, I can no longer even read posts. It could possibly be a problem with your theme?
Hi,
thanks – yes – it must be my theme – any ideas on an alternative “good” plugin?
Is this the standard comment bow your using the one that comes with wp?
Thanks anyway.
Just basic comment box with wordpress.
Have you tried disabling all your plug-ins and seeing what happens? Maybe you have an anti-spam plug-in that’s blocking it?
Actually – I have no discussions “plugin” anymore!????
Will get to the bottom of this!!!
Cheers
