Why do we still have hardback books?
In this world of environmental awareness, and green issues, I question the logic in producing hardback books in the numbers that the publishing industry seem to. Is there a particular reason, other than a massive price difference, between a hardback and a paperback?

Sony Reader – not quite there yet
I found myself in Waterstones over the weekend, and had the opportunity to give the Sony Reader a good look over, and am grateful that I did!
I’d started asking for Waterstone’s vouchers for Christmas and Birthday, in the hope that I could get around half of the £200 cost, and could then put the rest towards it, and buy myself the Sony Reader. I like to read, and would like to read a lot of the texts available at the Gutenberg Project, but I was so disappointed with the Sony Reader.

Alfred Lord Tennyson Idylls of the King
Alfred Tennyson was born in Somersby, which is north eastish of Horncastle, and is one of British Literature’s most famous poets. He was Poet Laureate until his death in 1892, and my favourite work of his, is The Idylls of the King, dealing with the life and death of King Arthur.

Buying books in Horncastle shops
For a long time Horncastle was relatively famous for it’s antique shops, but these have declined in recent years, and seem to have been replaced in some ways by shops that sell books. Whilst there are only three ‘true’ book shops, there are some stalls in the local antique centres that deal exclusively with books.

Robert Jordan died last year!
I don’t know how I missed this, but it didn’t seem to make the mainstream news over here in the UK!
I googled Robert Jordan today, to see if there was any news on the next episode of his epic Wheel of Time series, only to find that his blog says that he died September 16th 2007. I really can’t believe I missed this, and am quite devastated that I won’t be reading any more of his books.
