How to beat the credit crunch…Somerfield style!
The credit crunch is biting. Inflation is at it’s highest in years. Banks are collapsing like dominoes. Energy costs are at their highest.
Food is far more expensive than twelve months ago, in some cases prices have gone up over 50%. So how does Somerfield propose to beat the crunch?

Buying books in Horncastle shops
For a long time Horncastle was relatively famous for it’s antique shops, but these have declined in recent years, and seem to have been replaced in some ways by shops that sell books. Whilst there are only three ‘true’ book shops, there are some stalls in the local antique centres that deal exclusively with books.

Larger Tesco store in Horncastle?
It seems that Tesco is wanting a larger store in Horncastle, and this is worrying a few people, although I can’t for the life of me find much news about this, aside from some letters to the editor of our local newspaper. This is shaping up to be the same sort of argument as Horncastle Town Hall where a very vocal minority, seek to overwhelm the mostly silent minority.

Horncastle Town Hall – the debacle continues
The issue of what to do with Horncastle Town Hall, seems to be increasing in intensity, with everyone claiming victory after the recent poll. Letters have been printed in the local paper, accusing local politicians of being misleading when discussing the costs of the town hall, accusations that there was a plan put forward in 2004 to develop the site and the nearby Wong for housing, and even a letter from a martian! Horncastle not worthy of NHS dentist?
Hot off the rumour mill.
The only dentist in Horncastle that treats NHS patients, is Hartoch’s, and there is a rumour that he is trying to sell up.
He wants the local Primary Trust to buy him out apparently, or he will be forced to go private. Unfortunately it seems that the local Primary Trust don’t believe that Horncastle needs a NHS dentist (obviously because the town is so affluent, with £150,000 two bedroom houses all over the place!) so come October, NHS patients will either be looking for a new dentist (good luck with that) or paying Hartoch to treat them?
So is he actually really trying to sell, or trying to force the local Primary Trust to buy him out so he can open a private practice without any of his present patients (except the rich ones obviously)?
Whatever happened to the family dentist, who were there to look after your dental needs and not there own back pocket? Did those dentists ever exist, or am I looking back with rose-tinted spectacles?
Saturday auctions, fish and chips in Horncastle
Saturday is market day in the sunny liitle town of Horncastle (except today when it was bucketing down with rain) and that means wandering downtown, to have a look at what rubbish the local auctions are offering for sale

Horncastle Town Hall is SAVED!!
Sorry about the headline, but a resounding 10 to 1 vote to save Horncastle Town Hall must be seen as a victory, or must it?
The vote ended with just over 1000 residents voting to save, and just over 100 residents voting to demolish. Unfortunately it is my belief that all this vote has done is give East Lindsey District Council the ammunition with which to torpedo the poll results.
You see, those votes count for only 21% of the voting population of Horncastle, so it seems that over three quarters of the adults in Horncastle that are registered to vote, are actually indifferent to what happens to the town hall. As the cost of refurbishing will no doubt be added to the Council Tax, ELDC will, in my opinion, simply ask the question:
Should the majority of Horncastle residents have to pay for something, that only twenty percent of the ‘community’ actually care about?
Horncastle Town Hall, voting tomorrow, but what for?
The town of Horncastle goes to the polls tomorrow, to vote on whether to save and re-furbish our town hall, or sell it to developers, and spend the money elsewhere in Lincolnshire (but very probably not in Horncastle).
So far there has been very little information on what the Save Horncastle Town Hall brigade actually plan to do that is different. Indeed the only service that I can see will be truly missed, is when the Blood Donor bus sets up in there. What exactly are we voting to save?
Survival of Horncastle Town Hall dependant upon vote?
Horncastle Town Hall, situated opposite the junction of Boston Road and Mareham Road, will have it’s fate decided next week when the town will go to the polls to decide it’s fate. This farcical vote will cost the local community £5,200 according to the Horncastle News, and has caused the shelving of two other projects. Why is it farcical, you might ask?
