“Error: “1003,16″ after you install a Norton product
It seems that just trying to stay safe on the internet, can cause half a day of headaches, more sometimes than the virus itself.
Hiya Son,
Thought this might interest you, just in case it happens to someone else,
My Norton Internet Security 2009 just ‘stopped’ a couple of days ago and an error message from Norton came up as follows:-
“Error: “1003,16″ after you install a Norton product
We are currently investigating this problem. This error appears when you use Norton Add-on Pack with Microsoft Office Outlook Connector. As a workaround uninstall Miscrosoft Office Connector or Norton Add-on Pack”
After this message up pops a window from Norton trying to connect to the internet so that the can tell you what to do via ‘Live Chat’ during which I was asked if they could remote access my pc – NO was my reply just tell me what to do. I was told to close everything bar the chat. START, RUN, MSCONFIG, SERVICES – tick the hide all Microsoft services – then disable all – apply reboot machine – go back into msconfig services enable all reboot. This worked…….. until today when it started again only this time wen I went onto the internet another scrren appeared saying that Norton was shutting the system down and 50 seconds later it did just that. Restarted – again I got the same message but this time I could not connect to Norton Live Chat as it kept saying my pc was not connected to the internet – yet I could open IE & go to other sites – NOT IMPRESSED – after about 1.5 minutes this screen came up System Shutting down (grinding teeth)
However – phoned you up and after trying several things, decided – yes – I was going to have to uninstall Norton. What a mess. Uninstalled Norton – this took 3 attempts due to the system shutting down grrrrrr. I downloaded Norton Removal Tool once this had completed it took to straight to Symantec site ‘reinstalling after using removal tool. This screen also told me where my Product Key was stored. BUT before I reinstalled Norton I went to the Security Centre & ran the check for latest updates using custom install – there were two, 1 for Office & 1 for Outlook – I installed them – then after installing and verifying it then authenticated my copy YIPPEE. This will only work if you have a genuine copy of Norton.
Don’t know if this could be edited and put on you blog to help other users. ?

I thought ya January 20 post was INFORMATIVE!! I just at the end of July 28,2010 installed NORTON 360 V 4.0 to my Toshiba laptop. On Monday,8-16-2010 the window warning me my `NORTON will expire in _ days appears.’ As I type this POST on Sat.8-21-2010 my NORTON 360 V 4.0 has expired!!!! What the FROG? I was under the impression that my laptop would be covered with viral protection for one year. What are my options? I was able to go to NORTON LIVE CHAT on July 29th, due to my receiving the `NORTON has expired window’. Don the NORTON TECH GUY told me to` take the NORTON 360 back to STAPLES because there must be a problem with the product.I still receive the NORTON VIRUS PROTECTION HAS EXPIRED window’ yet a few seconds ago a NORTON window popped up asking me whether I needed assistance with AUTO-FILL, and I wasn’t even putting my name, address or other pertinent info in this post.PLEASE HELP!! I am out of space or I would type about my `adventure in tryin to get NORTON LIVE CHAT TECH SUPPORT for this issue…..Virus protection worked for less then a month.
All I can suggest Shirl, is totally uninstalling the Norton 360, and trying to re-install. If it worked for less than 30 days it sounds like it might have thought it was a trial version – did it activate correctly?
