Just when you thought the government couldn’t be more stupid…

Sometimes a new story on iGoogle catches my eye, and I have to read it, just out of curiosities sake.
Paying for sex with prostitutes who are controlled by pimps is set to become a criminal offence, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith is expected to announce…Under the plans, people who pay a prostitute for sex knowing they [...]

A good reason to pirate games?

I like to play computer games, but whilst many are fun and good value, some aren’t that great so therefore are poor value, which is where the secondhand market comes into play. I have to wonder whether Electronic Arts are trying to get rid of the second hand market (I have no doubt they would [...]

Que Sera, Sera

I’ve never been the kind of person to leave things alone, so when I didn’t receive any reply from the letter to my father, the temptation was to get on a bus/train and go knock on his door. If I had a car I would have driven there, so it’s fortunate that I don’t!

I’ve [...]

Why do we still have hardback books?

In this world of environmental awareness, and green issues, I question the logic in producing hardback books in the numbers that the publishing industry seem to. Is there a particular reason, other than a massive price difference, between a hardback and a paperback?

According to Greenpeace most books are still printed using virgin (non-recycled) paper, and [...]

Microsoft need to cut down on the amount of Windows versions

I like dabbling with new software, even when it’s in the beta phase, so the opportunity to test the next version of Windows (called Windows 7) was too much to resist. The operating system itself is excellent even in this early stage, but it seems that Microsoft hasn’t learnt anything from the Vista debacle.

When Vista [...]

08443571652 automated debt management phone calls!

There I am, twiddling with various computer parts trying to get them to work and the phone rings. Annoying! It never seems to ring when I’m not doing anything, or when X-Factor or other trash TV is on, just when I’m busy!

So I pick up the phone and get an automated computer message
Blah, Blah, Blah….this [...]

RTFM - Read The ******* Manual!

The regular visitor to my site (aside from myself, there is at least one other ) would notice that I’ve been messing about with the layout and theme of the site. The new theme is called Thematic from a place called Themeshaper (link right at the bottom of this page) and I like the [...]

Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender

There I was, just casually chatting to a friend on Microsoft Messenger, and she asked me to send her something via email, so I fire up Mail, type a quick message, drop an image in and click send. One minute later and I get an automated response entitle Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender.

The broadband debacle - fair use and download limits

The UK’s broadband market is too cheap - there is very little profit, and companies that provide these services have for some time used dubious marketing blurb to attract customers. Finally it seems that someone has actually noticed, and has started asking people what they expect to get from their ISP, and whether they know [...]

Are the game companies trying to kill off secondhand sales?

I used to enjoy playing computer games, but am being restricted more and more, by so called Digital Rights Management. DRM is software that is supposedly designed to stop illegal copying (piracy) but in actual fact doesn’t do anything of the kind. All it does is restrict the genuine buyer, and cause problems for people [...]
